Baking Course Fees in Johor Bahru (2026): 8 Schools Compared

Pastry Art Academy··12 min read
A mother and her teenage daughter go over a printed fee sheet with a calculator at a pastry school reception, with a glass display of croissants and tarts behind them.

How much are baking course fees in Johor Bahru (JB)? At Pastry Art Academy in Ulu Tiram, JB, the 4-month Level 2 diploma is 4 monthly payments of RM4,875 (Malaysian ringgit) at 0% interest, the 6-month Level 3 diploma is 6 monthly payments of RM4,917, and the weekend course starts with RM5,500 for Stage 1, paid one stage at a time. At many other schools you can't tell until you ask: 5 of the 8 JB schools we checked in October 2026 publish no tuition on their own websites.

Below, we show what our pricing section publishes and compare it, without naming anyone, with what other JB schools put online. Where information is missing, including ours, we've turned the gap into a question to ask before you pay. For Malaysia-wide fee ranges, see our baking diploma cost guide.

Key Takeaways

  • •Only 2 of the 8 baking and culinary schools in or near JB that we checked in October 2026 published full tuition on their own websites; 5 were enquiry-only.
  • •Our diplomas are paid in monthly instalments at 0% interest: for the 2026 intake, 4 payments of RM4,875 (Level 2) or 6 of RM4,917 (Level 3).
  • •The weekend course is paid one stage at a time, starting with RM5,500 for Stage 1.
  • •On an RM20,000 bank loan over 5 years, a 5% flat rate adds RM5,000 in interest; our 0% plan adds nothing.
  • •Our internship is optional, with recommendations to our internship partners.
  • •Ask every school, including us, for fees in writing.

What Pastry Art Academy's pricing section publishes

Our pricing section publishes what you pay: 4 monthly payments of RM4,875 at 0% interest for the UK Baking & Pastry Diploma, Level 2, 6 of RM4,917 for Level 3 (the sixth is RM4,915) and the price of each stage of the part-time weekend course, starting with RM5,500 for Stage 1. For 2026 enrolments, the RM1,000 registration fee is waived on both diplomas. Each diploma's programme page shows its tuition and 0% plan, and the weekend course page shows the Stage 1 fee. Training Qualifications UK (TQUK) endorses both diplomas, so each is a TQUK-endorsed course.

All fees in Malaysian ringgit. The weekend course is a Pastry Art Academy course, separate from the TQUK-endorsed diplomas.

The 0% plan adds nothing: for the 2026 intake, the monthly payments add up to exactly the tuition, with no interest or fees on top. The weekend course works differently. You pay for Stage 1, then decide on each stage after finishing the one before. Nothing later is booked or charged until you say yes.

For context, the Malaysia-wide diploma listings in our baking diploma cost guide run from roughly RM20,000 to RM112,000 in tuition (2026 listings). That's a national range, not a JB one. Lengths and inclusions differ, so compare per month of training: our monthly payments are RM4,875 for Level 2 and RM4,917 for Level 3.

What we don't publish yet

Our pricing section doesn't yet say whether ingredients, uniforms, tool kits or certificate fees are included in tuition. It doesn't give a refund policy, class sizes, intake dates or whether the weekend course carries a registration fee either. We'd rather say that plainly than let a headline figure look all-inclusive. So ask us in writing, just as you'd ask any other school.

Tuition pays for hands-on hours in a professional kitchen. Ask each school what else the fee covers.

How many Johor Bahru baking schools publish their course fees?

Only 2 of the 8 professional baking and culinary schools in or near Johor Bahru that we checked on 22 October 2026 publish full tuition on their own websites. One more gives a per-semester range with no total, and the other 5 ask visitors to enquire. We didn't count our own school. For each one we read the official website and, where it had one, the school's own education fair profile. Most are baking or pastry academies; 3 are culinary programmes with pastry modules. We couldn't load their social media pages, so some may post prices there, and any school may quote on request. Treat it as a small sample and a one-day snapshot, not a census.

We haven't named the schools, because the pattern matters more than any one name. For one school, the only fee we found was an undated estimate on a third-party site, which may not match what the school charges.

Why don't more schools publish? We can only guess. A quote on request lets a school tailor a package, which can genuinely help. It also means you can't compare until you've had a sales conversation with each one. The Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (FOMCA) says Malaysia's price rules expect traders to quote prices that include all government taxes and charges, which it calls single pricing (FOMCA, 2020). Those rules aren't written for tuition, but the test is fair: one number, with nothing compulsory left out.

Is a 0% instalment plan the same as a bank loan?

A 0% instalment plan is not the same as a bank loan: the plan splits tuition into payments that add up to the same total, while a bank loan adds interest. By our own calculation, an RM20,000 personal loan over 5 years at a 5% flat rate costs RM5,000 in interest, an effective interest rate (EIR) of about 9.15% a year. Our 0% diploma instalments come from the academy, so the payments add up to the tuition, with nothing added; for the 2026 intake, that's 4 monthly payments for Level 2 and 6 for Level 3. You can also apply for a bank loan to pay diploma tuition. That suits some families, but it's a separate product: the bank sets any interest and decides on approval.

Is '0%' on a credit card the same thing?

A '0%' credit card plan is not always free. RinggitPlus, a Malaysian personal finance site, found that '0% interest' card easy payment plans can carry processing fees of 2% to 8%, and some merchants add a 2% to 5% surcharge. Miss a payment and you face late fees of RM10 to RM100 and card interest of up to 18% a year (RinggitPlus, 2025). With prepaid services, you keep paying the bank even if the provider closes.

What should you check before a bank loan for tuition?

Check the effective rate, not the headline rate. A flat rate charges interest on the full original amount for the whole tenure, even as you repay it (New Straits Times, 2025). Under paragraphs 10.11 to 10.12 of its Policy Document on Personal Financing, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) will prohibit personal financing priced with a flat rate or the Rule of 78, which front-loads interest, from 1 January 2027 (BNM, 2025). Until then, some lenders may still quote flat rates. Ask the bank whether its tuition loan counts as personal financing under these rules.

Interest added to RM20,000: 0% instalment plan vs a 5-year loan (RM)

A 0% instalment plan adds no interest. At the same 5% rate, a reducing balance costs far less than a flat rate. All figures are our own illustration.

0% instalment plan5-year loan, 5% reducing balance5-year loan, 5% flat rate01500300045006000

Source: Calculated by Pastry Art Academy

Same rate, so why the gap? On a reducing balance, you pay interest only on what you still owe. By our own arithmetic, RM20,000 at 5% over 60 months then costs about RM377 a month and RM2,645 in interest, against RM416.67 a month and RM5,000 on a flat rate. Ask any lender for its Product Disclosure Sheet (PDS), which shows the EIR (RinggitPlus, 2026). Comparing lenders is getting easier, too: RinggitPlus reports that under BNM's revised product transparency and disclosure standards, each PDS must fit within two A4 pages and follow a standard template (RinggitPlus, 2026).

Can you use a government study loan?

Don't plan around a government study loan until you've checked that the specific programme qualifies, at any school. PTPTN (Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional, the National Higher Education Fund Corporation) offers interest-free education loans with a 1% administrative charge (MyGOV, 2026). The course must be approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and registered with PTPTN. At private institutions it also needs a valid MQA (Malaysian Qualifications Agency) accreditation certificate (Multimedia University, 2026). Check the official PTPTN and MQA registers first.

Is an internship required, and who are the placement partners?

Whether an internship is required depends on the school: of the 8 schools in our October 2026 check, 6 mention one and 4 build it into the course length, adding 4 to 6 months where a length is given. None says whether interns are paid. At Pastry Art Academy, the internship is optional. With experienced instructors who bring real-world industry experience on top of a solid curriculum, you can complete the diploma without one. If you'd like work experience, we can recommend you to our internship partners: Fire Pitz Group (Horizon Hills, Iskandar Puteri), Doña Bakehouse (Johor Bahru), Alina Cafe (Iskandar Puteri), Love Fun Baking House (Johor Jaya, Johor Bahru) and more.

Placements are agreed case by case and depend on each partner's operations. An internship is work experience, not a guaranteed job offer. We don't publish whether a placement is paid, so ask before you accept one.

Placements with our partners are optional and agreed case by case. They are work experience, not a job offer.

A built-in internship isn't a bad thing. Months in a working kitchen teach speed and standards a classroom can't. But it changes your real cost: a 6-month internship means 6 more months before you finish, with travel costs and, possibly, less income than a full-time job. So ask whether it's paid, who picks the employer and whether you can graduate without it.

What should you ask any baking school before you pay?

Ask for every fee in writing. Most schools in our October 2026 check said nothing about what tuition includes (5 of 8) or about registration and other fees (5 of 8), so a quote on its own may not show your full cost. These ten questions work at any school, including ours.

Ten questions to ask before you pay

  1. What is the total tuition, and which compulsory fees sit outside it?
  2. Is there a registration or admin fee, and is it refundable?
  3. Are ingredients included, or charged separately?
  4. Are a uniform, knives and a tool kit included? If not, what will they cost?
  5. Are exam and certificate fees included, and what does a re-sit cost?
  6. If there are instalments, how many are there, how much is each, and do they add up to exactly the tuition?
  7. If a loan is suggested, who is the lender, what is the EIR, and can I see the PDS?
  8. Do I need an internship to graduate? Is it paid, and who chooses the employer?
  9. What is the refund policy if I withdraw before or during the course?
  10. How many students are in a class, and when is the next intake?

Our published information fully answers question 6. It partly answers questions 1, 2 and 8: it gives the tuition, the RM1,000 registration fee and its 2026 waiver, and says you don't need an internship to graduate. It doesn't yet cover refunds, what tuition includes, whether placements are paid, class sizes or intake dates. For those, ask us on WhatsApp and keep the reply. A school that answers clearly in writing before you pay is showing you how it will treat you afterwards.

The bottom line on baking course fees in Johor Bahru

The real cost of a baking course in Johor Bahru is the tuition plus anything the quote leaves out. Ours is public: RM4,875 × 4 or RM4,917 × 6 for the diplomas at 0% interest, and the weekend course stage by stage, starting with RM5,500 for Stage 1. Most of the JB schools we checked in October 2026 share fees only on request. That isn't wrong, but it leaves the comparing to you. The registration waiver and the instalment plans apply to 2026 enrolments; we'll update this page when 2027 fees are set.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a baking course cost in Johor Bahru?

It varies, and many schools only quote on request: 5 of the 8 JB schools we checked in October 2026 published no tuition on their own websites. At Pastry Art Academy, the diplomas are paid in monthly instalments at 0% interest, 4 × RM4,875 (Level 2) or 6 × RM4,917 (Level 3), and the weekend course is paid one stage at a time, starting with RM5,500 for Stage 1.

Do JB baking schools charge a registration fee?

Some do, but few say how much: only 1 of the 8 JB schools we checked in October 2026 published amounts for registration and other fees. Pastry Art Academy's registration fee is RM1,000, waived for 2026 enrolments on both diplomas. Wherever you apply, ask whether it's refundable.

Is a 0% instalment plan the same as a loan?

No. A 0% plan adds up to exactly the tuition, like our 2026 intake plan of 4 monthly payments of RM4,875 for Level 2. A bank loan adds interest: by our calculation, RM20,000 over 5 years at a 5% flat rate costs RM5,000 in interest. Credit card '0%' plans can also carry processing fees of 2% to 8% (RinggitPlus, 2025).

Can I use PTPTN to pay for a baking course?

Only if that specific programme qualifies. PTPTN loans need a course approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and registered with PTPTN, and at private institutions a valid MQA accreditation certificate (Multimedia University, 2026). Check the official PTPTN and MQA registers for any programme, at any school, before you plan around one.

Is an internship compulsory for a baking diploma in JB?

At some schools it's built in: 4 of the 8 JB schools we checked in October 2026 include an internship in the course length. At Pastry Art Academy it's optional: our experienced instructors bring real-world industry experience on top of a solid curriculum. Students who want experience can be recommended to partners such as Fire Pitz Group and Love Fun Baking House.

Are ingredients, uniforms and tools included in tuition?

It depends on the school, and many don't say: only 2 of the 8 JB schools we checked in October 2026 list what tuition includes. Our pricing section doesn't state it yet either. Ask us, and every school you're comparing, for a written list of what's included and what costs extra.
